20th Anniversary Edition of The Journal of the Old Tuam Society to be launched (JOTS20)

The Old Tuam Society is delighted to announce the 20th anniversary edition of JOTS is on the way. We are so proud that we have reached this significant milestone in the promotion of local history and heritage in Tuam.

This bumper edition is jam-packed with a wealth of diverse topics, hopefully of interest to all and the usual sprinkling of local photos.

So much of the enduring success of JOTS is owed to the
immense efforts of our members and contributors from near and far; we are so grateful for those who share their memories, photographs, family histories and their fascinating insights to our locality. These efforts are creating an ever increasing treasure trove for future generations. It is also testament to our authors that JOTS is now so firmly associated with the run-in to Christmas.

The launch this year will have a new flavour, as the Society seeks to chart a new course for the future, after the challenges of recent years. The launch will feature live traditional music performances by local musicians, and among the speakers will be Anne Tierney, President of the OTS and editor, Ruairí Ó hAodha, who will reflect on how the journal began and how it has developed over the two decades. We are also delighted to welcome regular contributors Mary Burke and Mairéad O'Brien to speak and JOTS 20 (2023) will be officially launched by a past journal editor and former Tuam Herald editor, David Burke.

JOTS 20 will again be available for just €15.00 and will be available from Ray O'Brien's Newsagent, William Street, Galway; Maxol Garage at Churchview; SuperValu, Sharkey's Spar Express and Quinn's Confectionery on Bishop Street. If you prefer to purchase the Journal via PayPal, including details on postage and packaging, please contact journalots@gmail.com. An excellent Christmas gift for anyone, anywhere.

For those interested in becoming members of the Society or current members who wish to renew their membership, you can do so after the launch event. We warmly invite everyone to attend, whether you are a returning friend or a new acquaintance. The launch will take place at Tuam Library, located on High Street, on December 2nd at 2:30 pm. Light refreshments and music will be provided, and we hope to see you there for this special occasion.
