Announcing our October 2015 event "How'm I Blowin' Sham?", which takes place on Friday 30th of October, 2015 at 8 pm in the Mitre Room, Corralea Court Hotel, Tuam. This special event will follow a different format to our usual lectures with a local panel of showband alumni and fans sharing their memories of the golden age of showbands in Tuam. Old Tuam Society members Maurice Laheen and Tony Claffey both contribute to this week's RTE Radio One's Documentary on One: A Caravaggio in Tuam?. The programme will be broadcast Saturday, September 12th at 1pm on RTE Radio One and will also be available via podcast on RTE website afterwards. The documentary tells the story of stone cutter Tom McHugh (a brother of old Mrs Julia Higgins on Old Road, Mrs Brid Lynch's mother) who bought a Carravaggio painting in Tuam at an auction in 1930. The Old Tuam Society is delighted to welcome Sean Carter to deliver a lecture entitled ”Rugby in Tuam: Then and Now". To coincide with the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, this presentation will document the sport in Tuam over three distinct periods from the early days, to the '70-'80s when the club moved to its new grounds. and up to more recent times with new developments and initiatives.
The lecture takes place at The Mitre Room, Corralea Court Hotel, Friday, September 18th @ 8 p.m.
