May 2016 Lecture - "The Protestant Experience of Revolution in County Galway 1913-1923"

Our 2015-16 lecture series comes to a close on Thursday, 26th of May, 2016 in Tuam Library at 8pm.

Between 1911-1926 the Protestant population of Galway declined by 53%. This lecture will attempt to explain why by discussing the impact of War and Revolution, demographic decline, agrarian conflict, social change and sectarian tensions.

The Society is delighted to welcome Cormac Ó Comhraí as our lecturer. Cormac is a native of Furbo, Co. Galway, where he lives with his wife and two sons. He teaches history in Scoil Chuimsitheach Chiaráin, Carraroe. He is the author of a number of books on the 1913-23 period and has contributed to TG4, RTÉ and Raidió na Gaeltachta documentaries on the period. His latest work on the period in Galway is Sa Bhearna Bhaoil: Gaillimh 1913-23 (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2015).
